COMMITMENT TO ACADEMICS

  • Increase access to preschool readiness programs and advocate for universal preschool

  • Develop strong literacy, STEAM and critical thinking skills

  • Increase support for ESOL students and multilingual acquisition programs

  • Ensure rigorous and accurate academic content for all students including increasing dual enrollment offerings

  • Ensure students in Franconia have access to a variety of programming in FCPS academies 

  • Focus on closing the achievement gap for our minority students, socio-economic disadvantaged students, and students with disabilities

  •  Address learning loss caused by the pandemic

COMMITMENT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE WHOLE CHILD

  • Create a robust Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and ensure teaching of SEL by qualified professionals

  • Support the mental health of students by hiring more counselors, psychologists, and social workers to decrease the student to provider ratio

  • Provide increased access and support to enrichment opportunities in the arts, athletics (including in middle schools), technology, and communications

COMMITMENT TO EDUCATORS AND SCHOOL STAFF

  • Recruit and retain diverse, highly qualified educators and staff that can thrive in a culture of respect and recognition

  • Ensure collective bargaining rights and competitive salaries for educators and staff

  • Ensure educators and staff receive pertinent professional development and are not overburdened with non-essential tasks and responsibilities

COMMITMENT TO EQUITY AND INCLUSION

  • Create a safe and secure environment where all students, staff, and families, feel welcomed and valued regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, including newcomers and military connected students

  • Meet the needs of all students with fidelity and intention including those with Individualized Education Plans (IEP), Section 504 plans, and those in Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) including twice exceptional students, and the English as a second language (ESOL) students 

  • Recognize the disparity across FCPS and provide necessary support to ensure zip codes don’t determine the quality of a student’s education

  • Provide healthy and nutritious meals to students free of charge

COMMITMENT TO PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

  • Embrace and encourage authentic parental participation in their child’s education involvement in their school

  • Pursue meaningful partnerships that help address student food insecurity, lack of access to medical/mental health and dental care, housing insecurity and basic needs
